Biutiful

An excruciating examination of human suffering, of guilt, of parental responsibility and dependence. Of actions, decisions and consequences. It shows the underbelly of a European city, Barcelona in this case, but it could have been anywhere. There is only a glimpse of the beauty of the city, mostly what you see is the misery in the survival mechanisms of the underdogs, the sick, the fragile, the transient, and the price they pay for surviving.
I could barely sit through it, but Javier Bardem and his character makes us want to watch him go to the very end of his line.
The sound track is superb.
